The clinic is for P.A. announcers who announce junior high/middle school, high school, college and youth football.Substitute announcers, as well as high school and college students, who would like to learn how to announce or who are announcing, are encouraged to register.
Tom Judd, P.A. announcer for the Towson University Tigers, will be the clinician. Judd, who has 15-years experience, announces football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball volleyball and field hockey for the Tigers. His resume includes numerous Colonial Athletic Association and NCAA events.Bill Rothe, P.A. announcer for Kenwood High School and Sparrows Point High School, will be assisting Judd, along with Richard Keller, who announces for the University of Maryland, The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and the Community College of Baltimore County.
In addition to learning how to properly announce football, the clinic will cover other aspects of announcing, including sportsmanship and promoting a positive environment, and dealing with emergency situations, all of which have liability implications.
"With the success of the basketball announcer's clinic that we hosted last November, I can see a real service to the athletic community by doing something similar for football P.A. announcers," commented Derek Maki, Kenwood High School Athletic Director.High school football games continue to draw large crowds all around Maryland.Because announcers play a key role in helping make these events successful and safer, it is important that they obtain proper training and education. That’s why anyone who announces football would be well served to attend this clinic."
