Announcer of the Year Award
About the Award
The NASPAA Announcer of the Year Awards Program is a national recognition program for sports public address announcers. The program is sponsored by Clell Wade Coaches Directory.
Because the program is an NASPAA membership benefit, nominees must be NASPAA members. Individuals who may not be members may join at the time they are nominated.
The NASPAA Announcer of the Year will be awarded to an announcer at each of the following levels, high school, junior college, NAIA and NCAA. The NASPAA Announcer of the Year will also be awarded to a high school student announcer and a college student announcer.
For high school nominees, a nomination form must be submitted by the nominee's athletic director. If a high school nominee does not announce for a school, the nomination form may be submitted by the nominee's respective state high school association.
Nominations for college announcers must be submitted by one of the following; 1) school's athletic director, 2) sports information director or 3) a head coach. College announcers who do not announce for a school may be nominated by their respective conference, league or association.
Nomination forms must be received by NASPAA by April 15, 2009. A CD, DVD or an electronic file of the nominee announcing a live event must be also be submitted as part of the nomination process. A cassette recording is also acceptable, but a CD, DVD or electronic file is preferred. The audio sample must contain the following announcements:
- Welcome/opening announcement
- Introduction of the National Anthem
- Introduction of the starters for home and opponents
- Game/event (2 minutes max)
Audio samples will become the property of the NASPAA, and will not be returned. The NASPAA reserves the right to select certain audio samples and post them on the NASPAA website. Those nominees whose audio sample is used will be credited on the NASPAA website.
Award recipients will be announced around May 15, 2009.
