Bob Hoyt Draws NCAA National Wrestling P.A. Assignment
Bob Hoyt, NASPAA member and the voice of the Marion High School Indians of Marion, Iowa and the Cornell College Rams, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, has been selected to be the P.A. announcer for the 2009 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championship. The event will take place on March 6-7 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. This is the second consecutive year that the U.S. Cellular Center will have host the championships.
This will also be the second year that Hoyt has been involved with the event. Last year Hoyt was the secondary announcer whose responsibilities included making courtesy announcements and announcing mat assignments and bout results.
Approximately 8,000 wrestling fans attended last year's championship, including over 2300 for the finals. Ten wrestlers from each weight class, which is 160 wrestlers from 63 schools, will compete in this year's championship.
Since 1990, Hoyt has nearly four hundred athletic contests in football, track and field, basketball, baseball, softball and wrestling at the college, high school, and junior high school levels. In 2006 he was named the NASPAA Iowa High School P.A. Announcer of the Year. He retired from public school administration in June, 2008, after serving 21 years as an administrator in Marion. From 1990-2008 he was the middle school principal from at Vernon Middle School in the Marion School District.
